Synopsis
This is a story of hope where there seemingly is none. Despite the frost, life finds a way to bloom.
A young Latina woman has her children removed from her care due to neglect. As a condition to her regaining custody of her children, she must see a counselor. Letty's poor life choices have led to her failures in life and as a mother. Through glimpses into her daily life involving verbal and physical abuse we see her path to this state of hopelessness. She must share the struggles of her life with Dr. Sharon Greene, a Jewish psychiatrist.
Sharon is a very refined and educated woman who is also living a life of despair. Despite years of infertility treatments she remains unable to conceive a child. She has become a bitter and miserable woman.
She has a loving husband and mother who try to help her deal with her reality. Her mother, Ruthie, plays a very important role in Sharon's life.
Ruthie's unique life experiences have made her a woman who lives life to the fullest. As a child she escaped death at the hands of the Nazi's but may not be able to escape the illness which she now must battle.
Ruthie is a beacon of hope for her daughter even in the face of death.
Her strength is the catalyst for change in both Sharon and Letty.
